Dholavira is one of the most important Harappan cities in India: a raised settlement on Khadir Bet with reservoirs, walls and a layout you can still walk. The museum next to the site makes the stones readable. The surrounding bet — island-like when the Rann holds water — is the landscape you drive through, not a second outing.
From Bhuj the road is long. Start before dawn, or sleep nearer the site. This is why we keep a dedicated Dholavira day and never auto-combine it with Mandvi or the White Rann.
Summer heat on the excavated ground is severe. Winter and the edges of the season are kinder. Carry water. Hire a local guide on site if you want names for the tanks and gates. Walking these ruins is one of the things worth knowing on the long drive — most short trips never leave the White Rann. If you still have light, add the Wooden Fossil Park and Chhipar Point on the same dedicated day.
Questions
Is Dholavira worth it on a 3-day trip?
Only if Harappan history is your main reason to come. Otherwise keep Rann, Bhuj and Mandvi and save Dholavira for a longer stay.
